Thursday, June 7, 2007, pre-trial hearings for Basi, Virk, Basi confirmed to resume at 10:00 am

Supreme Court Criminal Lists are posted online as of now. Click on the link (BC Criminal Courts) in the left column. Case No. 23299 for Basi, Virk, Basi is listed complete with charges. Today, our Special Prosecutor is featured in a starring role on most of the first 8 pages. But will Bill Berardino show up today??
Note starting time: 10:00 AM at the Law Courts, 800 Smithe Street. I still haven't figured out what "RBG" means, where it should imo say "54" as in Courtroom 54. But hey, some of our Merry Anonomice figured out how to obtain copies of Madam Justice Bennett's terms of access to court documents. I'll post the links here:

It would appear that the first document provides an explanation of why they aren't handing out material to 'just anyone'-- on account of witness exclusion -- while the second one describes how, presumably, Robin or anyone else not on the trial witness list should be able to get hold of the material from the court.
BC Mary would particularly enjoy taking credit for finding this information. But the fact is that I (blaming Firefox) couldn't find it, so it took two excellent helpers to unlock the mysteries and send these links to us. Thank you both!
By the way, I've been thinking a lot about that "other presence" in Courtroom 54 these days. You know: The Public Interest. We are there, in the abstract. We're there even if only 6 citizens show up in the public gallery. But is it enough?
All along, I've wished that we could make the public interest visible. Would you agree that the judge, the prosecution, even the defence need to actually see the public to be reminded of the public interest?
The media needs this awareness, too. Remember when the media said that "the public is apathetic" when most of us saw/heard nothing in the print/broadcast media about Case No. VA23299? You'll have your own thoughts on this "the 5th presence" ... so please tell me. I think we need to talk about this. - BC Mary.
