Every person (elected or unelected) in the BC Legislature, could set an example of how to fight crime ...

.
Beginning with the premier and the attorney-general, the current BC government must demonstrate a healthy determination to fight crime if they expect others to do so.

Instead of blocking the legitimate requests of their former employees to obtain documents necessary for a fair trial on charges of fraud and bribery in the sale of BC Rail. they could demonstrate an honest readiness to provide every document without further delay. They could be the inspiring examples of good, responsible citizens.

In other words: the Campbell Government should be the example that they expect others to follow.

Noted in passing ...

... We've had criminologists this past week telling us that the gang problem in the Lower Mainland is -- per capita -- the worst on the planet. There are scores of gangs, all vying for a piece of the action of the drug trade.

Suddenly, almost unbelievably, the picture-perfect Lower Mainland feels like Chicago of the 1930s. Lotus Land has become Gangland.

Excerpt from Gang violence is a story that won't go away. By Ian Haysom. Read the complete column here.

If members of the BC legislature were to start setting an example of how to fight crime, aren't you afraid that would lead to self-flagellation?

"Sigh!!!" I was looking at the BC Liberal Party home webpage when I came across their boast of "Public Accounts Confirm Surplus, Debt Reduction" dated July 17, 2006.

I thought to myself..... I wonder where they got this information from so I did a search on the internet and came up with THE GOVERNMENT's version... I say vesion because everything is exactly the same except the phrase "government's annual strategic plan report" was inserted into the Party version.....

I found that by copying both pages into Micosoft Word and then did a compare command... and poof! out popped the above phrase.

I then did a search for this supposed annual report on strategic plan report and came up with it.

This is on page two of the document:

"OBJECTIVES & KEY MEASURES
C. BRITISH COLUMBIA WILL HAVE A FAIR AND EFFICIENT SYSTEM OF JUSTICE

MEASURE

MEAN NUMBER OF APPEARANCES TO COMPLETE A CRIMINAL CASE IN
PROVINCIAL COURT

DESCRIPTION:
This measure describes the average number of times a person accused of a criminal offence must appear in court in order to complete the case.

IMPORTANCE:
As criminal cases grow in complexity and involve intricate legal issues, multiple parties, large volumes of technical evidence and expert witnesses, they often take longer to resolve and use more court resources. They also can require more court appearances before the case is completed. If the average number of court appearances needed to complete all criminal cases can be maintained at baseline or reduced, court resources can be utilized to process more cases through the justice system at a lower cost per case. This contributes to a more efficient use of court resources.

TARGET
Reduce the number of appearances to complete a criminal case in Provincial Court from the 2000/01 baseline of 5.6 appearances

Note: The Ministry of Attorney General has restated the 2000/01 baseline to 5.8 appearances

LATEST RESULTS YEAR
5.7 2001/02
5.8 2002/03
"

Which raises the question, just how well has the BC Liberals done with our court system, in light of the long and drawn out manner in which the BC Rail Rail trial is proceeding?

Projection for 2004 on our justice system:

British Columbia will have a fair and efficient
system of justice
"Appearances per criminal case
Small claims settled through dispute resolution"

STRATEGIC PLAN 2007/08–2009/10
February 2007

Conclusion

British Columbia is riding the crest of a wave of success. We are experiencing unprecedented prosperity and fortune, but our world is changing around us. British Columbians must adapt to maintain our fortunate position.

-------------------

And here's the punch line as to why the AG of British Columbia is not doing one thing to curb the violence on our streets:

Its not on the BC Liberal agenda of their Five Great Goals which covers the time line from 2006 to 2016:

Five Great Goals

For 2006/07 to 2015/16, government will focus its energy on achieving the Five Great Goals. The goals are to:

1 Make British Columbia the best-educated, most literate jurisdiction on the continent.

2 Lead the way in North America in healthy living and physical fitness.

3 Build the best system of support in Canada for persons with disabilities, those with special needs, children at risk, and seniors.

4 Lead the world in sustainable environmental management, with the best air and water quality, and the best fisheries management, bar none.

5 Create more jobs per capita than anywhere else in Canada.

Allow me to answer these statements....

1 Make British Columbia the best-educated, most literate jurisdiction on the continent.
Consistently underachieving. Caused by closing schools, downloading to the districts, etc.

2 Lead the way in North America in healthy living and physical fitness.
I believe A. Hitler said the same thing..heil gordo!

3 Build the best system of support in Canada for persons with disabilities, those with
special needs, children at risk, and seniors.
Having a good understanding of L.D kids and adults, we are failing them. Children dying
and been abused at an alarming rate. Seniors dying and been abused. All under gordo's
watch. Biggest reason, most, including many seniors can't vote. Easy prey for gordo

4 Lead the world in sustainable environmental management, with the best air and water
quality, and the best fisheries management, bar none.
Yikes where to start! Very few wild salmon left, but lots of farmed (ratfish) salmon.
Waterways been sold off to gordo's friends. Selling off farm lands for housing for his
buddies.

5 Create more jobs per capita than anywhere else in Canada.
Lots of part-time and $6 to $8 dollars an hour jobs. Remember who said no to a raise to
the minimum wage law...gordo

It's easy rid the province of the criminal, and we will prosper once again.

.
Hmmmm. You are not helping.

I was referring to the disclosure of government documents essential to a fair trial for the Accused in the Basi Virk Basi trial.
