By Neal Hall
Vancouver Sun - Feb. 19, 2009
VANCOUVER – The opposition New Democrats applied Thursday in B.C. Supreme Court to gain access to thousands of documents related to the government sale of BC Rail in 2003.
Victoria lawyer Mike Mulligan, representing the NDP, applied for the release of about 8,000 documents during a pre-trial proceeding involving former government aides accused of corruption related to the BC Rail sale.
A lawyer for BC Rail told Justice Elizabeth Bennett that he wanted to check the documents before the judge decides whether to disclose the material to the NDP.
The matter will return to court next Wednesday ...

NDP OPPOSITION LAWYER ASKS BASI-VIRK JUDGE TO RELEASE F.o.I. DOCUMENTS RELATED TO BC RAIL PRIVATIZATION
By Bill Tieleman
Feb. 19, 2009
... NDP MLA Leonard Krog said in an interview with me this evening that the information it has requested could shed light on what happened in the BC Rail deal.
"The opposition is hopeful that some of the truth about the sale of BC Rail will come to light as a result of this application," Krog said. "British Columbians deserve to know the truth before the May 12 election."
Arguments on release of other FOI-requested documents continues in court this week and next.

Pay attention, you idiot:
Your poisonously political comment will be allowed to stand for approximately 2 hours.
That should give others time to reply.
After that, it goes onto the compost heap.
I'll repeat this one more time: PARTISAN POLITICS AREN'T ALLOWED ON THIS WEBSITE. IT'S NO USE FIGHTING EACH OTHER, WHEN WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO CLEAN UP BRITISH COLUMBIA. THIS IS NOT A DICTATORSHIP.
OK, got that?
Even in British Columbia, we have the rights, privileges and duties of a Parliamentary Democracy. An important part of that system includes an Official Opposition with specific duties.
I happen to think that B.C.'s Official Opposition has been too meek and mild and quiet, the past 5 years. You? God knows what you're thinking.
But if you have more brainless toxic political things to say, set up your own blog and say it there.
Or, join the conversation again here, if you're willing to cut the crap about "left wing" = bad (as opposed to "right wing = good") etc.
Jeez. Two hours, then poof.
.
It never ceases to amaze me how trivial (and political) the backers of the present government will stoop to get a message across that blames the opposition. In case you haven't heard or read (and I submit you haven't) there are quite a few people in this province that may have voted for this regime but now they are speaking out about voting otherwise. And contrary to what the MSM may state this blog and others are not cults. They are a way of informing the public what is really going on with the Campbell cronies. Maybe you and a few others had better start at the beginning of this blog and read everything. It could change your mind.
What's wrong with saying the NDP are upstanding? What's wrong with calling them left wing? What's wrong with calling them a group? They are a group of citizens who believe that they can run the province better than their opponents.
And as far as Cult.... it was Palmer and Baldry that started that line off.
I say let the first comment stand.
Anon 6:26,
I had pretty much decided to let the comment stand -- and my comment with it -- to provide a convenient laboratory specimen for examination.
Just don't try to tell us that the original slur was a harmless joke. It wasn't. It's rude and adversarial. You know that.
