BC Rail trial fair - except to public

.
Gordon Campbell could decide to build 2 or 3 more Convention Centres, and it probably would cost less than the cost of delaying the trial of Basi, Virk, and Basi.

Les Leyne talks about THAT. [Pssst ... somebody please send a copy to the Crown Prosecutor; maybe also to the presiding judge.]

How, I wonder, can a government which boasts of its financial skills, not realize that they could avoid these costs by ensuring full disclosure of government documents? Even CanWest points out HERE that there's still no explanation for how police reached their decision to lay criminal charges against those three men, but against no others.

Is this delay deliberate? I think so. If they wished to do so, the Campbell government can release those documents. So is delay a deliberate policy regardless of costs ... like keeping those PacifiCats out of reach, out of use, and tied up at the dock -- to score political points?

- BC Mary.

Comments:
Yes Mary there are the costs...and there's this too, as Leyne points out:
But it's also important that taxpayers have some vague idea of what's going on at election time. There is a big, complicated issue that needs to be explored but voters have had the door to that story slammed in their face twice in a row now by the legal system. However, Les, in his patented mealy-mouthed fashion, hasn't added the obvious fact that the real stonewall in this case hasn't come from the legal system - it has been erected by Gordon Campbell and his 'mouthpiece' Wally Oppal.

That's another issue which should be front and centre for the public as we enter the last few days before the election.

Gordon Campbell had a chance to address this in the debate on Sunday but, as he always does, he ducked.

Some leader.

Some 'performance'.

I wonder if the PAB clipping service prints the comments - or just the main postings of your blog for their 'files'.....?

G West:"I wonder if the PAB clipping service prints the comments - or just the main postings of your blog for their 'files'.....?"From what I observe - not so much on the comments. Maybe the CEO, in these hard times, can't afford the over time for all those extra mouse clicks for their tired little fingers!

Or then again, maybe they actually comment, but can't remember whether they are North Van Grumps or ??????. I'll get on looing into that angle, maybe I can ease Mary's confusion caused by the anon-0-mouse with an untold number of names and attempted stolen identities.

BTW, I just ran across this article in the online version of the T-C:

Yes, Les points out the cost of the trial, but where is his backbone? Why doesn't he and every other political opinion piece specialist demand to know what has happened with the government records. It is our government, after all. It should be transparent and accountable like Gordy told us it would be. From what I can tell, CanWest reporters/journalists as a whole are a bunch of lilly-livered dupes. When they get old, and look back on the body of work they have done, they will be able to tell their grand-kids, yep, I was a suck-up, I toed the corporate line.

Anybody got a rough dollar figure of the cost of the trial (so far)? Of known costs, that is?

And I can't figure it out. Do we want the Basi/Virk/Basi side to win, or lose? As observed previously in various ways, it's like they're the good guys (including pushing this ardent defence thereby exposing facts that might have otherwise never come to light).

"Do we want the Basi/Virk/Basi side to win, or lose? As observed previously in various ways, it's like they're the good guys"Well the BVB gang could take the first step towards redemption and being "good guys," by rolling over on the big crooks - the bosses. Then they could even go on "double secret unsupervised probation," subject to conditions of course.

All they would need to do is decide that their integrity was worth more than what ever has been offered for their silence (it wasn't death threats or anything, was it?)and come clean. If they would just tell the people what really happened to BC Rail, it would be fine with me to let them walk away scot free with a promise to never do it again.

With BC Rail out of the way then the rest of us could get busy and find the rest of the bodies. We could find out where all the money went from the Northern Trust, all about John Les' land dealings, full disclosure of the slitherings of Accenture, Maximus and the rest of the predators - and that is probably just the tip of the slimeberg.

Maybe we could even really take back the province that W.A.C. Bennett left behind. He didn't build BC, he wasn't God, but damn - him and Davey Barrett each left behind a better BC than the one they inherited - unlike almost all of their successors, especially the current regime.

SIG, here,
You know Skookum1, you posed a really difficult question and an interesting observation. How could things have ever gotten this convoluted? Why can't they all be the bad guys - not just Basi and Virk - not just the fall guys but their masters? Maybe we can get the big boys on income tax evasion; that's how they got Capone. With the banking crisis and the cash bleed, the developed world has begun putting pressure on countries allowing numbered bank accounts. I say we follow the money.

I think the idea of the Basi Boys coming clean is a good one. But as I stated almost two years ago they were hung out to dry. The Campbell liberals were making them the fall guys. When they hired the Lawyers (pretty good ones at that) the lawyers recognized what was going on.So the only way to prove that they were not alone and that people like the hyphenated finance minister knew what was going on was to get all the evidence they could. Due to government stalling and a Special prosecutor who is supposed to be at arms length from government (and I allege he hasn't been) that process has led to where we are today. Years later no trial date even set. Further, the paper trail has led all the way to the premiers office if not the premier himself. We can only expect more delays if the liberals are re-elected. But if they aren't then expect the proverbial horse puckey to hit the fan. Big Time.

Well, yeah, follow the money is a good idea. If only we knew who got paid what, and why.....

But.....

According to the Vancouver Sun editorial today this is nothing but a 'minor scandal'.

.

Yes Ross it is only a minor scandal if you are a biased newspaper that backs a party that has driven this province into the ground and then given away whats left. Big business is so afraid that they are going to lose their piece of the pie and finally pay the piper that they, along with the MSM are blitzing the rags and airwaves with all kinds of crap (lies). I wonder what's going to happen when they lose it all?
