The Globe's Reader Information

There's nothing to do during a Live Event other than read, watch and occasionally send in a comment or vote in the polling questions.

It's not a chatroom. You go to largely find out what the writer has to say. An open chat with thirty or more readers turns into poor, disjointed content very quickly.

Your comments are published at the Writer's discretion. The Writer can view all comments sent to them but only they can publish your comments for everyone to see.
Our 'autoscroll' feature ensures you're always shown the newest content without having to refresh or scroll your screen. You can turn this on or off by using the controls at the bottom of the Viewer Window.

Subtle sound effects alert you to new content as the writer publishes it. This can also be turned on or off as needed.

July 22, 2009, 1:10 PM. It's over. The Globe and Mail had technical problems, which may account for the low input. I know of one excellent question which never made it onto the live-blogging site. The question was: Is it fair to the people of B.C. that Berardino has threatened to drop the case if he doesn't win the court's total protection of his "Secret witness"?

My choice for BEST COMMENT from Mark Hume's live-blogging today:

[Comment From keith]
Mark, what question would you most like answered by the Premier?

Mark Hume: At this point I don't really think the Premier can answer questions about this with any credibility. What we need is to see the government record....the emails and documents surrounding the BC Rail deal, and the evidence gathered by police during their investigation. The best hope to clear the air is that this case goes to trial.

Big thanks to Mark Hume and The Globe and Mail for doing this. Now that we've got the hang of it, more or less, I hope they'll try it again. - BC Mary.

Comments:
Former Socred cabinet minister, Brian Smith, after losing the leadership race to Bill Vandersalm, left politics and went to serve on the Board of Directors of CN.

Brian Smith served as Executive Chair of Canadian National Railways ("CN Rail"), a position he held from 1989 to 1994.

Perhaps Campbell (and others) were thinking of their livelihoods after politicial life when they decided to gift BC Rail to CN?

Smith is just another marionette. Gordo is directly attached to the puppet masters.

Interesting and pretty frustrating exercise.

How did Hume decide what questions/comments he was going to respond to?

I know someone who sent several questions that he could have commented upon and not a single one made the 'grade'.

Not that the points he did respond to were trivial, one simply wonders how the decisions about comments were made.

Mary et al.

The software that the Globe used is essentially the same as that which I used on election night.

So....

We could set something up like that and do it ourselves.

Could be fun.

I'll try and come up with a plan and run it by you all.
