North Van's Grumps checks in this morning, August 9:

Hello Mary,

I'm still up here in Kelowna, the skies cleared overnight, and its heating up pretty fast. This computer that I'm using is relatively clear of any searches for anything to do with BC Rail et al which basically gives me a clean slate upon which to search.

I came across this, and I don't remember ever seeing it on my computer:

"As a commercial and competitive Crown corporation, BCRC does not
place any demands on public taxpayer funds. BCRC has not received
any direct operating subsidies or grants from the Province since March
31, 1993."

( $ millions )

Explain it again to me, why was BC Rail sold if there was a projected surplus of $34.6 million would happen by 2005?

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
And this:

Clarification of my 9:16 Anon comment: Mr. McLernon, according to the attached list to the post this morning is:

Riverside Forest Products Ltd.
Syscan International Inc. oh, oh!
Village Farms Income Fund
A&W Revenue Royalties Income Fund
British Columbia Lottery Corporation
Acer, Mclernon Canada Inc.
McGill University
Hot House Growers Income Fund
Village Farms Canada Inc.
Bishop's College School
A&W Trade Marks Inc.

Also, according to http://www.bcrco.com/bios/01.html

he is a Director of Canadian Urban Limited http://www.canadianurban.com/

Directors are not listed on the website.

So who knows whether BC rail company bio is correct or not.

Items highlighted in BOLD are in my humble opinion dependent upon the railways of British Columbia, does that then mean that Directors of BC Rail Co are .....

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Comments:
Great digging Leah.
It just amazes me how many dots can be connected with a little(or a lot) of research

do any of the companies named, or either of these individuals, show up on BC Liberal campaign/part5y donation listings?

Buying directorships.....what's the paycheque on these positions? Investment/return on the donation is probably considerable.....

Hot House Growers Income Fund....

Hmmmm. Are hot house products shipped by rail to the rest of North America?

Did the hot house growers owners endorse the provincial government's idea on selling BC Rail thereby reducing its shipping costs to the markets?

Skookum...that's for another day of digging. Soon as I have the laundry in, and the dishes done.

Unless of course, you're feeling energetic... . :))

All McLernon has is a BA from McGill....not an MBA, not a B.Econ, not an MA.....just a baccalaureate....it would be interesting to know in what huh?

Just goes to show how high you can rise without a graduate degree (same with Lara D, who also has only a BA).

When I was reading over the courses offered at the University of Western Ontario, I couldn't find a course called "International Politics"...which is her BA.

Perhaps it's discontinued...maybe.

Leah,

I've searched that, too. I've never heard of a degree in "International Politics" until it showed up on Lara's bio. on the Prov of BC web-site.

I suppose it could mean that she combined two majors, e.g., International Relations with Political Science ... I've also asked UWO graduates though, and they haven't heard of such a degree.

Could it be that a B.A. in "Political Relations" was tweaked because it may have had an unfortunate connotation in her situation?

That could be Mary, but if the BA is in a stated field that doesn't exist... . It would be interesting to know the facts about this one...after all it's all about Veritas et utilitas!

Leah,

you are such a sleuth!

Thank goodness for YOU ... and for Google ... which told me that Veritas et utilitas means "Truth and Usefulness"

and then another hit translated it as

"Truth and Service" which rings more sweetly. But then again, in Lara's case ... oh, meow ... can't go there!

Me, I always liked the SFU motto: Nous somme prets which (heaven help me if I got this wrong!) means "We are ready" or, as George Bush said (and probably wishes he hadn't), "Bring 'em on ..."

Weird. Sorry for the digression.

I'll keep poking around UWO ...
.

"prets", with a circumflex, also means "loans"....."we are loans" is pretty much a summary of the financial condition of the SFU student popularce.....

As for Lara's area of specialization, lying on a resume in the US is a major cause for dismissal, particularly in regard to high office......

It would be interesting to get the studetn journalists at UWO to do some digging about this supposed degree, and run an article "Premier's top aide in BC claims false degree from UWO" or some such.....with subtitle "mystery woman controls BC government's propaganda machine; never far from the Premier's side, said to control all access to him"

Monica Lweinsky she's not, and he's no Bill Clinton, but needless to say the US media would have been having a field day about this years ago if Gordo were a state governor or Senator or even lowly Congressman....but at least Lewinsky didn't concoct a fake degree specialization....
