Sunday June 13, 2010, awaiting the next session of the BC Rail Political Corruption Trial

.
BC Mary comment: Norman Farrell deserves a Webster Award for the best use of actual history to explain events of today. The Campbell Government history is almost beyond belief ... and the original promises of 2001 are  re-posted here by kind permission because, as the old saying goes 'He who forgets history is doomed (or condemned) to repeat it'.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We can, but we won't
By Norman Farrell
Northern Insights - June 13, 2010
I recall voting Liberal in the 2001 provincial election and for years now, I've been wondering what led me to that regretful choice. Perhaps, I suffered early onset of age-related intellectual impairment but I prefer to believe there were other causes. In search of those, I read through the BC Liberal 2001 Platform. I suspected it would provide clues and it did.
It turns out my error was one of naivety. My mistake was believing what the Liberals said. I provide here a number of their promises and little editorial comment is required. I've held back items related to health and child welfare because those subjects deserve separate attention. What do you think readers, did he work wonders?
Comments:
I'm gobsmacked, Norman! I searched hard to find truth in that platform. Every single plank in that platform was rotten. There is not one issue that remained even at the status quo. For the people of BC, Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberals have made worse every one of the issues that they proclaimed would be improved upon or protected. Does this not constitute election fraud?
SiG,
It nearly knocked me over, too.
That "LIVING RIVERS ACT", holy smoke, how sacrilegous can Gordo be?
How much more clear could that promise be, NOT to sell or privatise BC Rail?
Is there a psychiatrist in the House??
.
If it isn't Election Fraud SIG it certainly makes his tenure based on absolute lies. And Norman I think you may be now working on the second term promises and you will find exactly the same thing. Everything he said he would do, he did the opposite.
That's when I responded to one of Rafe's columns when he called Campbells promises "terminalogical inexactitudes, and called them out and out lies.
The mans (if I can call him that) entire political career is based on LIES and deceit.
Interesting blast from the past - I assume the red type indicates the most egregious failures of the CEO to keep his promises. Have a close look at the last 7 bullet points.
Maybe they should be red lined too?
G West,
You're absolutely correct ...
I meant to highlight only the BC Rail "promise"
then I couldn't seem to find a stopping point.
.
Yea, that is some good stuff from Norman Farrell......
But again, I blame the bought media.
Everyone of the Palmers and Baldreys and the greasy little Les Leyne`s of the world have looked the other way.
Yet it seems they all a have a total recall of the propaganda spewed by the PAB about the 90s, more on this over at my joint...
Good stuff Norman, I suggest that the NDP take Campbell`s 2001 platform and run with it, let the masses know, bring it into context to today.
Carole and Moe, time to go!
Cheers
Thank you, thank you all of you!!!!!!
For the truth!!!!!
Before anyone complains, I must admit that this blog has a distinct aversion to the guy called Campbell,
and what he did to the province we love,
and to BC Rail in particular.
I admit that I did promise to run a non-partisan blog because I truly don't believe that politics fixes problems. People fix problems by working together, and working honestly.
However, like it or not, we must look back (with Norman Farrell) to see how we got started down such a destructive path with the Campbell guy.
His phony campaign promises for 2001 reflected the expectations of the BC voting public. How could they resist?
So it isn't just the HST that's making people roaring angry right now ...
it's the unbelievable betrayal, loss, pain, the duking it out in court, and finally we hope, the desperate need for renewal of a caring government and an unbiased media.
I don't care what political party the new government represents,
if only they remember that the public interest comes first; that crooks aren't welcome; and that we have repair work to do.
All of that begins with a fearless look at what BC was promised in 2001 as compared to what they got,
Inside that gap is an outline of the repair work to be done.
What a stunning lack of integrity, on full display via historical artifact. And what perfect timing for this retrospective, undisputable truth. Proof, straight from the horse's mouth. These Liberal words and promises should be spread far and wide. They speak more eloquently for themselves than any carefully explained anti-BC Liberal opinion possibly could.
The sociopath always has the advantage over the trusting because he is the one planning and scheming, taking advantage of the trusting. He is willing to call himself by whatever name makes him acceptable, pretending to be whatever his victims want him to be. He will carefully lie and deceive in order to increase his power. Whatever it takes to win.
The sad thing about sociopaths who impact history is that they tend to be mass recognized only retroactively, after the damage is done.
I don't understand how people can be so blind to basic character, and I wish there were definitive tests that all politicians were required to take, weeding out those with nefarious purposes and needs. Gordon Campbell's character has always shone out clearly to me, and I have been amazed and saddened by the public blindness he has manipulated.
A further quote from Gordon Campbell in that 2001 platform document:
Imagine looking at our province 100 years ago and then look at it today. Think of the public legacy of our past – the roads, bridges, dams and power lines that brought us together.Think of all we have built: wonderful schools, universities and colleges to teach students of all ages; excellent hospitals to provide us all with care; and countless community services.
This election provides a chance to embark on a New Era of enormous scope to build on that proud legacy.
However, instead of building on the legacy, they began to tear it down.
Maybe I've flipped my wig or something ...
but the Campbell promises suddenly appear to me in a different way.
Please look carefully. Gordo promised nothing!
Do you see "My government will do this ..." and/or "My government will do that ..."?
No. You don't see that.
There's a list of crippled sentences. The words just hang there without a subject, without a verb ... not one of the doggone things is a complete thought (or complete promise). Not even the opening line is a promise. Fake, fake, fake. And we bought it.
Please have a 2nd look. I mean, if Gordo took this list to court, I think he could swear he had never promised anything!
Don't we have to say "I solemnly swear ..." before it becomes a promise?
I wouldn't want to go to court pressing for fulfillment of
"NOT to sell or privatise BC Rail"
because ... well, what do those 7 words mean?
The first line certainly doesn't say "My government promises to ..."
Were we sucker-punched into thinking Gordo would take care of each item on that list? Were we thinking what WE wanted to think?
Even if true, it doesn't let Gordo's Gang off the hook. It shows in a cruel light, how they took advantage of the BC longing for good stewardship of the land and its people.
It only shows (if my concerns are accurate) that there are sneaky, wily, cruel bozos working to keep this Campbell Guy in power ...
and they aren't done yet.
.
Truth is Mary, they practiced deception from the beginning. And, it will happen again with the next group unless there can be some new system of ensuring ethical behavior among politicians.
I suspect the best chance we have is to increase the individual influence of MLAs and decrease the power of the first minister's office and enforce very strict rules on lobbyists.
BTW, another big lie is the Liberal claim that they are great business managers. Have a look at the chart of taxpayer supported debt posted today at my site.
After having seen the mess Campbell has made of everything, I wonder just how legal all of this is ?
By that I mean manifesto stated quite clearly what would be done (or not done) but - none of it was done. Isn't there something called a social contract with political parties who run for government?
If there is such a thing, then would most of the "stuff" Campbell has done be illegal and possibly negate contracts that emphasize legal or correct behaviour or intents?
Just an idle thought, but it sure would be nice if something along these lines could be proven/done.
Thx
JW
Concerned Citizen, you are so right. The fact that so many people never saw the sociopathic character of Campbell from the beginning has always amazed me.
To All - what Concerned Citizen said bears repeating:
------
The sociopath always has the advantage over the trusting because he is the one planning and scheming, taking advantage of the trusting. He is willing to call himself by whatever name makes him acceptable, pretending to be whatever his victims want him to be. He will carefully lie and deceive in order to increase his power. Whatever it takes to win.
The sad thing about sociopaths who impact history is that they tend to be mass recognized only retroactively, after the damage is done.
------
I'd add one other characteristic of sociopaths that Campbell embodies in spades: no empathy, no compassion for others – except for carefully managed condolences or crocodile tears if/when required to complete his disguise/deceit.
That's why Gordon Campbell allows services to dry up for the most vulnerable, thereby enabling: children being murdered even as they are "protected" wards of the government, seniors being beaten and/or drugged in care facilities, patients dying from hospital infections, the Public Guardian staff being convicted of embezzling the financial assets of supposedly "incapable" seniors, the working poor forced into homelessness.
Gordon Campbell can do that without a strain on his conscience because, like every sociopath, he doesn't have one.
Grant G said:
"I suggest that the NDP take Campbell`s 2001 platform and run with it, let the masses know, bring it into context to today."
What an excellent idea! We know that the BC Liberals can't use this platform - they used it once and they failed to keep any of their promises. With all the sell-offs of assets and destruction caused to the economy and infrastructure, it will now cost us more than twice as much to get back what we had let alone trying to move ahead on this platform.
Except for taking care of some pressing environmental issues, perhaps some party should make the platform that we should attempt to just get back to where we were before Campbell Inc. took office in the first term. Even that will be difficult with the wholesale screw-ups the BC Liberals have amassed. In second term, perhaps we can look at moving ahead.
I've often wondered why El Gordo was ever so tight with the politicians of Alberta, and now I know the answer, thanks to Norman.
Fourth New Era promise from the top is:
"Give all MLAs and citizens a better voice in government through active legislative committees."
Albertans have been promised this:
A Wildrose Alliance Government will give all MLAs and citizens a better voice in government through active Legislative committees.
http://www.wildrosealliancerutherford.com/blog/DemocracyRenewed
And where El Gordo says this:
Introduce free votes in the Legislature, to allow all MLAs to vote freely on behalf of their constituents on all matters not specifically identified as a vote of confidence.
Wild Rose Alliance says this:
A Wildrose Alliance Government will support representative democracy. All MLAs will be free to express their constituentís views even when those views are contrary to the Alberta Alliance views.
"BTW, another big lie is the Liberal claim that they are great business managers. Have a look at the chart of taxpayer supported debt posted today at my site."
Or another sign of business genius, forcing BC Hydro to buy Pirate Power at 12.6 cents per kwh and selling it Friday for less than 1/2 cent per kwh. This isn't stupidity though, it is a blatant attempt to bankrupt BC Hydro to justify doing the BC Rail scam to it and handing it over to "friends" of the LIEberal Mob!
Somebody over at Les Leyne apologist Paul WillyNillyCocks' points out the above facts from Bloomberg.com. I find Grant's potrayal "a greasy little man" more accurate than Paul's when it comes to Les(s) "brain cells than your average paramecium" Leyne.
And CC,
"...carefully managed condolences or crocodile tears if/when required to complete his disguise/deceit."
Only when he is caught dead to rights like on Maui..........
Look south of the border if you want to see some creepy candidates as the tea partiers force the Republicans to ditch any sane candidates in primaries - There is a climate change denier from U of W that wants to take on Patty Murray for senator from Washington and the Lady(?) who won the ReThug primary in Nevada is so radically fascist that Harry Reid made up a 20 point deficit virtually overnight once she became the candidate.
Haley Barbour the Gov of Mississippi or Alabama is really cheesed off that Obama has put a moratorium on deep water drilling in the Gulf prefering jobs, even if it destroys the rest of the American coast. Meanwhile the Republican governor of Florida is glad there are no rigs off his state, and wishes there weren't any off Louisiana or Texas, because his beaches are one wind storm away from being closed down. Meanwhile Bobby Jingdal went from a get the government off our backs guy to calling daily, hourly for Daddy Obama to help..........Even John McShame is being forced to act even dumber than he is to counter the attack on his senate seat (held since the founding damn near) from the anti everything tea party Mexican haters.
And then we have Little Pudgy Stephen..............and Jason Kenny and the roundtable of genii - with Helena not so Gorgeous for comic relief! I have to laugh, or else I would have to shoot something.........
Hold the line on court fees to ensure that everyone has affordable access to our justice system.
• Court fees have not increased.
LOL
Here's a source of the New Era promises/completion and now I suppose there will be another brochure published that shows the New Era promises being taken apart....by the BC Liberals.
http://www.bcbudget.gov.bc.ca/Annual_Reports/2002_2003/ag/ag_role_link2.htm
Was this done in 2009?
Ban all non-essential government advertising in the four-month period prior to the fixed election date to prevent any opportunity for partisan abuse of taxpayer-funded advertising.
• This commitment will be honoured by government during the 2005 election campaign.*
Didn't Stone Wall Oppal reduce it to 120 or 90 days for 2009?
I suggest everyone cut and paste these promises,send them to their MLAs and ask why we should trust them on the HST.
Anon 6:44,
That's a clever piece of work ... many thanks for sharing your discovery.
.
Stuart S.,
That's a darn good idea!
Send those "promises" to every MLA ... and beyond.
.
One reason being they have lousy managers, they may have taken on people with poor memory retention.
Take for example that fella who is being questioned by the defense.
With a memory like his surely he doesn't hold a drivers licence.
How does he manage to find his way to the court? How does he remember where he lives? Does someone help him dress up in the morning. When he goes for a crap is there someone in the bathroom to remind him to wipe his ass before he pulls up his pants, additionally does he remember which is his wiping hand. How does he remember when he last pissed . Is there someone to remind him to undress before bedtime, and to pull the covers over himself.
Keeps wanting to call the Judge Sir.
@ Henri Paul
Henri and Norm, though they would like everyone to believe that they have made "mistakes" or were unable to see coming "what no one could expect" or other such excuses when caught with their figurative pants down, it is far from the truth (a word not in the BC liaR lexicon).
They are crazy like the provebial fox, unfortuately for us they use their cunning (that is all it can be called, it really isn't smarts, intelligence or wisdom - slimey cunning) for what amounts to criminal betrayal of the public trust to advance the corporate agenda, diminish democracy and just incidentally line their own pockets in the process.
No denying your correct Kootcoot.
What really pisses me off, that we citizens have been played like a second hand fiddle.
That these smug arrogant, lying, cheating bastards have the audacity to look at us through cameras lens as If were all fools,fools for having put our trust in them.
If this court case pans out in favor of corruption, then we the people have only one resolve.
Make BC the worst place politically of attracting this sort of low life that we presently have in our government, after all, its only for money, creed ,power for which they exist.
Further to this, we must find a solution on how our Judiciary is picked,as presently they are themselves acting as tin pot dictators, and are accountable to no one.
Which brings us back to those unseemly warrants, thrice-rejected until approved on foreign soil, and sealed ever since. And the interference of the same judge in the pre-trial judge juggling, and his exclusive viewing of all that was seized and remains, conceivably, evidence.
Accountable to no one. Except maybe, and only maybe, the Law Society and/or the federal-level review committee.
It's not like Justice Mackenzie will open those warrants if Defence asks for it; maybe she doesn't even have that power. And it's not like either the Law Society or the federal review panel are going to act with any more sanity than we already haven't seen from any authority figures in this (except, perhaps, Justice Bennett....).
Maybe "accountable to the press", if we have a real press that is...
