Stop whining! We're winning the BC Rail Political Corruption Trial.

.
Toxic overload!! Time to take a breather. Today I circulated a column by James Travers and because it wasn't about BC Rail specifically, I didn't include it here on this blog. But it seems to have knocked some courageous warriors sideways with despair, and I began to see the relevance. Travers column is here. My response to his excellent column (including BC Rail relevance) is copied here, because too large to link.

Message from BC Mary to Jim Travers:

You deserve an award for the depth, clarity and helpfulness of this column. A million thanks for it.

Now if only I could make it equally clear -- in hopes that you'd write about it -- exactly how tightly linked is the British Columbia political environment with the Harper government exactly as you have described it today. BC Liberals are nothing like Liberals, or liberals, need I say. And media mis-read the HST protests as anti-tax when, in my view, the protests were fuelled by 10 years of anger. Righteous anger over what's been done to BC.

There's a climate of "power at any cost" for the Campbell Government in BC  -- and the strategy is becoming recklessly obvious. It's sad to see the political process devolve to what it is, with Opposition indistinguishable from the Campbell Gang; but even sadder is the obvious manipulation of the judiciary (the strange removal of the judge, replaced by a pro-government judge in the BC Rail Political Corruption Trial, the conflicted appointments of Special Prosecutor etc). Even the West Coast media grow uneasy, and have noticed one or two (ahem ... ) discrepancies. And we inch into our 5th year and 2nd Witness of what National Post dubbed (correctly) the BC Rail Political Corruption Trial. Are they hoping we'll forget that we once owned BC Rail?

If only you'd visit the scene of this unfolding tragedy, Jim. The media shunning has added profoundly to what's gone wrong in BC.
_____________________________
Fact is: there's a war on. A big confusing war. The easy part is BC Rail: how we lost that vital public asset is the story of how other places and other assets are being methodically undermined and lost.

Jim Travers -- one of Canada's best journalists -- is talking about the Harper strategy for world domination, which appears to include disturbing and dividing  Canada ...

and I'm thinking: maybe we should bite the bullet, admit that it's time to face the possibilities, and think our way through ... otherwise, the situation sure isn't going to go away.

Never forget that what happened to our BC Rail is part of a much larger abuse. Or that by refusing to accept what was done to BC Rail, we are acting to protect a much larger transaction (if you get my drift).

What gets me, with regard to the whiners and moaners who say it's all hopeless, is that we're winning the BC Rail Political Corruption Trial. Already, with only two witnesses, we're beginning to see some of the mysterious persons who helped to crowbar BC Rail off our trackage. We've watched with a growing understanding as they twist and squirm, seemingly protected by a compliant judge. We've actually come around to opposing our own Crown Prosecutor because realistically he doesn't appear to be our own Crown prosecutor.

We're growing up and we're winning this battle. Don't for heaven sake think of giving up now!

I ask for patience with regard to how much despair I can handle here, too, at The Legislature Raids. Moments of despair are natural and normal; but a steady bemoaning wears people down (me included).

I'm not paranoid. But I am realistic and don't like being fooled, much less cheated. So I'm thinking that it's very likely because we're winning in the Court of Public Opinion as well as in Courtroom 54, that the whining and moaning about hopelessness has become louder. Now who, I ask you, would want to throw us off the track in the BC Rail case? Well, it's a team, actually.

Litmus test: rarely is Aneal Basi named as one of the three Accused in the BC Rail Political Corruption Trial. Almost never is it mentioned that when Aneal Basi was working for the Gordo Government by special appointment, he was a Communications Officer for the Public Affairs Bureau -- that very propaganda arm of government which we have learned to watch carefully. The P.A.B. for which Dave Basi took the occasional "dirty tricks" contract for the BC Liberal Party too, such as "ripping a new a**hole for the Mayor of Squamish" who opposed the sale of BC Rail. This noble venture was heard on wiretaps being Okayed by the Minister of Finance who is coming up soon as a witness at the trial. Naaaa, they wouldn't want us to get downhearted, quit, and go away now, would they?

Let me say again: the BC Rail Political Corruption Trial is already paying us dividends. We know more, we've seen more, and there's hope for a breakthrough.

Current BC Rail trial sessions begin again on Tuesday morning,  October 12.  BC Supreme Court at 800 Smythe Street, Vancouver, is open to the public.

Just for a bit of humor here, though a lawyer's first allegience is to his client (more than even the truth) and he is "professionally" obligated to act in the best interests of his client.

However there is a parallel thread, that seems only true in its lack of truth whereby lawyers as members of the bar have the responsibility to expose illegal activities - this is why lawyers don't really want to know if their client "did it" or not. Theoretically they are also supposed to always speak the truth, and only ignorance is an excuse for not doing so - or not being asked the right question.

I find it hard to believe that the defendants in this trial aren't being bought off for their silence somehow - because there is no defense better than the truth, and they were never in a position to "sell" the influence they are accused of, other than by acting as agents of those above them with the real power to affect decisions.

Of course it is time that the court started DEMANDING some responsiveness in these witnesses who seem to make the big bucks and garner the big perks for developing early onset dementia.

You've almost got it right BC Mary, but the correct wording is this:

"Basi: I wanted to have the mayor of Squamish, who's a good friend of ours, rip Barb Sharp a new asshole. Is that okay?

Collins: Absolutely."

You know, as appalling as the "ripping a new a**hole" comment is, I'm actually glad it came to light. It speaks volumes about the methods and values that are condoned in that organization/government, and it really doesn't reflect on them very well.

Curly,

That's my view, too. We're learning, learning, learning every hour that the Corruption Trial is allowed to continue.

Yes, it was an appalling conversation; because yes, it reveals so much about the ethics and integrity of the Gordo Gang ... and in particular their use of Organized Warfare manipulating the public on taxpayers' dollars.

Did they -- and by this, I mean the Gordo Gang and not especially their hireling -- did they for one moment imagine that they were serving the public interest? Wasn't it all about their own interests? E.g., "a good friend of ours" indeed.

This trial isn't fractionally as expensive as the dastardly actions undertaken under the direction of this premier. Plus: this Corruption Trial is the first time anything resembling a forum has been held, to answer our legitimate questions.

I think of Kevin McCullough, with thanks, on this Thanksgiving Weekend.

Good point Mary. The defence lawyers in this case obviously know important and minute details about a government that has tricked and stolen from British Columbians, and I too am very thankful for what they have brought to light so far - and for what they obviously plan to continue shedding light upon. If only their knowledge could become common knowledge....

If only ... if only Concerned Citizens like you, CC, would make it part of the daily routine to pass the word along!

Be a spotlight shining into the dark corners of Gordo's regime.

I think, in fact, that the battle IS being won. But it's far from over AND, on 27 October Campbell is planning to 'address' the province to talk a about: 'the economy, education, and the future of B.C.'

I believe the CEO has a trick up his sleeve which will be revealed during that speech; a trick he thinks has the potential (albeit high-risk) to change the game profoundly.

I think he's planning something that will polarize the province significantly AND, in his lights, become THE LEGACY of his political career...

It is important to be prepared to fight back...and to work together on that project.

Sadly, the official opposition seems to have decided - just at this crucial moment - to turn the guns on their own troops.

ok so everyone here is shocked by the rip a new asshole comment. But I am not shocked in the least.

Nor do I think its as big a deal as you all seem to want to pretent it is. It isnt.

It was/is talk show radio where practically no body listens in, or cares one way or the other, beyond 5 seconds, except for maybe the neo conservative 60 - 80 yr olds who have nothing better to do during their day. They might remember the conversation 10 seconds.

And as far as I can tell, the NDP and all other political stripes have done exactly the same thing at different times.

I am not shocked nor surprised in the least.

Anon 10:55,

Thanks for the chuckle.

That's such a lame pretence, all I could do was laugh.

Oh, and btw, nobody is expecting you to be shocked, surprised, or break out in a rash.

Information is something to be used, to think about, and to guide our actions. Think about that. OK?
