The Legislature Raids

To Harvey: I'd like to submit, for your consideration, the rather obvious fact that if the case had proceeded and the defence been able to fully present its case to the jury, and to continue shooting down (so expertly) the witnssses produced by the Crown, that they may have been acquitted on grounds of "acting under orders of their superiors", namely cabinet and senior apparatchiks such as the amnesiac Chief of Staff and the mysterious Mata Hari-like figure of the Deputy Chief of Staff who is said to have been their real supervisor.....and if they were to have been found innocent by proper due process, their legal bills would have been paid in full, as the law requires.

To me, the buyout is a tacit admission that they were innocent; not of their actions, but of their criminality.

I'm far less concerned about the $6 million buyout than the double-billion-dollar loss of a public asset and the accompanying loss of annual revenues from it to the provincial treasury (c. an average $175 million as I recall someone estimating that figure to have been).

I totally agree about not voting for any leader - or any candidate - who does not support the call for a sweeping public inquiry. To do otherwise is to condone secrecy and illegality and also to forego the very likely prospect, that if the case had proceeded, or a public inquiry were to be held, we would have our railway back (with damages).
 

I totally agree with Skookum1 here, as I am far less concerned[but concerned nonetheless] with the six million payout as I am about the multi billion loss of BC Rail. They actually took pains to make it look like it was losing money[if you can imagine that mind boggling fact]to try and sell us on the notion that it was for the best for all.They took pains to make as though it was loosing money?This I find so disgusting that I can hardly write but they thought of us as such idiots that we would just buy it hook,line and sinker.
We weren't idiots we were just people believing the Government had our best interest at heart.
Fools maybe but I don't think so,
never before have we been subjected to such corrupt and unscrupulous people and never again will we be fooled by them this way.
I have confidence,I don't know why but I do, that these times will pass and we will be a stronger and wiser public not so easily led down the garden path and not so easily manipulated by these people but for everything in life there is a cost and that cost is trust in these very people for which we vote for, trust in what they say and above all trust in who they present themselves to be. We must be more aware.
So much has been lost in our province but I believe our focus has to be on now what we can save and what we can recover and our energies are best spent with this in mind.
