BC areas being considered where foreign goods can be stored duty and tax free before being shipped elsewhere. Is this what the loss of BC Rail really means?

Curt comment cross-posted:

March 3, 2011 – 24 HR

Foreign trade zones being considered for province.

The BC government is mulling whether to declare parts of the province “Foreign trade zone.”

A Feb 22 request for proposals seeks a consultant to gauge the feasibility of designated areas where foreign goods can be stored duty and tax free before being shipped elsewhere.

BC markets itself as Canada’s Pacific Gateway, but the tendering document says “Visiting foreign delegations and numerous port-related companies have commented on the lack of foreign trade zones in BC."

Canada offers some incentives and breaks for importers and exporters, but is only FTZs are Centerport Canada in Winnipeg and Newfoundland gander airport. Both offer transport, manufacture and distribution and warehouse services

Global Container Terminals Canada leads a steering committee that wants $5 million from taxpayers over five years to run a Metro Vancouver FTZ agency.

The committee includes, CN CP. Port Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Airport authority and airports in Toronto, Montréal, Halifax and Winnipeg.

IT wouldn’t be isolated to one area, GCT Canada preside Eric Waltz said. “We would like to do a model or run a prototype in one area that can show it can be successful.”

The 298 member National Association of Foreign Trade Zones includes FTZs in Bellingham, Everett, Seattle and Tacoma Washington.

1. Taxpayers should not be paying private companies to run their business.
2. SFPR = LAND by the port = real estate.
3. CN first on the list.
4. Is this what it all boils down to? (BC Rail)

The rail yard at Ashcroft BC is being expanded, for just that. China needs a place to store their goods. This was plotted, a long time ago. Harper and Campbell have worked on this, for quite some time.

All goods these days are made in China. I do believe there is a lumber terminal at Lumby BC. Whether the terminal will stay there or not, who knows.

The rail line to Lumby is C.P.R. track. However, the C.N.R. has used the  C.P.R. tracks for many a year. They will need terminals in smaller towns that have the room to expand.

Harper's agenda is Global governance for Canada. I have heard him speak of this many times. Campbell works for Harper. BC has been stripped down to the bare bones. Ask yourselves why? Where are the logistics, to destroy this province?

I don't know if you got this Mary. I'm anon 10:42.

The information on the expansion of the Ashcroft rail yard is at, ep Overviews Publishing Inc. It's in the Energy overviews archives. It was just a comment on the need for storage terminals.

Ashcroft is close to Kamloops. CN out of Kamloops, runs to Prince Rupert. Rupert Port has been expanded to take the large freighters from China and perhaps other countries' freighters. Ashcroft was to store goods from China.
The rail yards in smaller subs have the room to expand.

Prince George Rail is also expanding. If CN doesn't smarten up, the BCR could be shut down. Since the U.S.A. has taken the CN, things have gone to hell. The American standards of safety are no where near as strict as Canada's.

I am from a railroad family. The BCR was a money maker, and the best run railroad in Canada. The corrupt sale of the BCR, was all about thieving the real estate. I can see the BCR being phased out, and CN spurs built, to reroute the freight from the BCR line.

The Americans are trying to run trains, two miles long on the BCR line. Shorter trains means more trains, cutting into their profits. I can see the BCR being gone forever. Far too many derails.

My brother was a superintendent, with the BCR, he has been retired for some years now. However, he said the sale of the BCR was a scam, and a dirty one.

All the things happening behind closed doors. I can imagine how long this has been in the works, it's not a 1 month thought for sure. The secrecy that shrowds this liberal government "new" and old is despicable.

The Federal Cons are just as bad.
I am an Egyptian.

5:54,

What bugs me is that "The Federal Cons" aren't Conservative at all, they're the latest incarnation of the ambitious, unscrupulous old "REFORM" party. Check Harper's background: Reform, Alliance, C.R.A.P. ...

just as Campbell soiled the name of the Federal Liberals by using their name to shield his Reform, Socred gang "BC Liberal".

As I keep saying, "Partisan Politics" can't solve our problems. It's good people working together to solve the issues, that will heal BC's wounds.

Now March 2011 We have Ken Dobell lobbying for Seaspan/WASHINGTON MARINE GROUP/Southern Railways- which is running the E&N Railway Vict -Courtnay which I had the bitter sweet pleasure of taking on My return trip from Court in Vancouver on the 16th. I had been doing research on the E & N and how the hell did Southern Railway/Washington Marine Group get to run this railway.

The railway is owned by the Island Corridor Foundation and operated under contract by the Southern Railway of Vancouver Island.

The ICF is a partnership of First Nations, five regional districts and 14 municipalities. The governments of British Columbia and Canada assisted in the creation of the ICF by facilitating the receipt of E&N lands to the foundation through a donation by CP Rail.
WHY did CP DONATE?

E an N railway

Earlier, we reported Seaspan Coastal Intermodal Co. appears to have hired the premier's former special advisor Ken Dobell to advanced its complaints about increased competition from British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. The government-owned private company recently got into the same business as Seaspan - shipping tractor trailers between Vancouver Island and the Mainland. But, despite those complaints, BC Ferries new drop trail service shows no signs of shutting down.More recent info can be searched Using Seaspan as search.

FEDS KICK IN FUNDS TOWARDS NEW BARGE SLIP

The Federal Government has kicked in $4.6 million towards construction of a new rail and truck barge slip, which Southern Railway of BC (WMG) plans to construct at its Annacis Island terminal. The new barge access would end a circuitous route currently needed to reach the Tilbury Slip in Delta, and reduce costs for access to Vancouver Island. (BL)

Island Corridor Foundation
A Via Rail RDC in NanaimoThe not for profit Island Corridor Foundation is a partnership between First Nations and local governments along the SVI line. After years of work and negotiations, the ICF came to agreements with both the Canadian Pacific Railway and Rail Americia, to hand over its Island rail assets to the foundation.

In February 2006, the Canadian Pacific Railway donated its 234 km (139 mile) portion of the SVI right-of-way, which averages 30.48 m (100 ft) in width between Victoria and Courtenay, to the Island Corridor Foundation. The donation was estimated to be valued at $236(C) million and encompasses 6.51 km² (1608 acres) of land, six historic railway stations and a number of trestles. In addition, CPR also supplied $2.3-million in "seed money" to the Foundation.

On 22 March 2006, RailAmerica handed over ownership of the Port Alberni to Nanaimo portion of the SVI to the Island Corridor Foundation. On 1 July 2006 Southern Railway of British Columbia began operations of the railway under contract from ICF using the name Southern Railway of Vancouver Island.

In January 2010 a new train ferry terminal started operating on Annacis Island in the Fraser River connecting to Nanaimo and offering the SVI increased freight capacity via Seaspan ferries.[9]

Freight and Via Rail passenger service continue, and commuter rail between the southern communities of Victoria and Duncan will be studied in the future.
(The study was done and the results are posted, will post in future )

I couldn't be more proud of you, that you know and remember more than I do, at critical moments.

Breakthrough!! WooHOOOO!

I'm not sure how exactly it relates to this, but Hwy 97 south of Clinton was straightened and widened last year. A fairly major project. This is the highway between Cache Creek/Ashcroft north to Clinton.

There is no rail link between Ashcroft (CN) and Clinton (former BC Rail line).

Mary, I am anon 10:42.

I am still learning my way around on a computer. The information is on, ep overviews publishing inc. It's the Energy Overviews Archives. I am from a railroad family, and knew of this for quite some time. The rail line to Lumby BC, runs out of Kamloops. The CN had the contract to switch the mills. As I said, the line is owned by CP, however, the CN used their line. It's also why, I know the BCR was a money maker. The BCR was the best run rail line in Canada. My brother was a superintendent with BCR. If Campbell was ever in front of certain peoples locomotives, they would have run him over.

Ashcroft is close to Kamloops. The CN from Kamloops goes up to Rupert. Prince Rupert Port, was expanded to take large freighters from China, etal. The CN is also expanding in Prince George.
